Wood

Time is going so, so fast these days. Sometimes I will completely panic over the fact that it's only a few months until all the drama begins, as in exams. But I have a few weeks left, and I'm determined to complete all the tasks me and my lovely intern ship coach have set up for me.

So, Last week I went to Gouda again for the 2 weekly check-up. After we discussed the new works and theory's I got to prepare a piece of wood to try out.

                    1. Smoothing the wood, otherwise it would be rather difficult to draw or paint on it.

                                           2. First baby steps of drawing on wood ; )

 3. Finally, painting on wood and it feels so good : )

                                       4. End Result, Done on wood with Acrylics and gold & silver ink.

I really liked working on wood, so I'm going to search at my parents next week for pieces of wood I could use : ) I always wanted to try it out some day, but I never thought it would make such a difference. But it does, somehow I also treat it different, with more respect then I do with  things on paper.

These pictures are from a visit earlier, A teacher came to see how things went with my intern ship.  So we laid out a few of the works I brought on the ground.

Marjolein shows me how to transfer my drawn business card into a illustrator file. I completely drew it again with illustrator, and I headed for a style like Alfonso Mucha. Not with all the colours and extra detail. But I just don't like the hard-lined illustrator works you mostly see.

Oh and on a side note, The continued line of the egg round through his hair, is not on the official card : )

That's it for now, I've got a lot more to show, but I'm chopping it into bits for a few posts :)

Changes

So, Yes, I made a few little changes to my Blog. Finally a header which is my own, though i'm not sure how long this one will stay. I learn by the second about these things, so i see a lot of mistakes and things i don't want. But Hell, it's a first : )

As for my internship i'm working on different things now.

1st. The Posters

So Yes, well, i'm really working hard to get MY style together. I'm stuck between realism(mostly pencil) and more abstract(like paint such as acrylic and aquarel) So on advise from my coach(to call her that way;) ) I searched and put together a page with works of artist I admire. also these artist have a lot of realism in their works, but a lot have an edge, a little something like hard lines, or dripping paint. Sounds very lame as i write this, but it's the truth. So I'm making a series of posters and during this project I want to develop my style, and i believe That is only possible with hard work.
In this first Poster I tried to make 2 layers in a simple composition. Also I really like red en yellow stripes, but i don't think that's a surprise. So 1 black layer, which represents the tiger/spirit/courage of the woman(layer 2) which is a bit more realistic but still rough with thick lines etc. Personally I like the red and yellow and the vibe that comes of the painting and also the black silhouette works perfectly. Still I think it's a bit.. not really what I want. So the search continues(not really surprising as it's the first poster).

Then we have the second poster, at first I absolutely love it. Still do, i like the colours I like the lose way I painted it and i LOVED making it. Has been a while I made something while having so much fun. But while I was having so much fun I forgot something. I made a sketch of a clown( a Pierrot sort like), whom was very sad and was in a sea of Collars. I totally lost that feeling, my painting has more of a fun, dancing vibe or something, as if my clown will be doing a boogie dance in a few moments.

And yes, 3rd poster. Although this is a rough version I guess. I was with my parents and had set on a poster WITH typography. I'm always struggling with typography, but I just WANT to learn in what way I can use it. So I'll keep trying until I drop dead on the floor.I actually like this one, had fun with the letters. The joke in it was planned, the the clown is lost, and looks for the circus he belongs to while it just is resting on his hair. The picture is to little to see it, but i still like the feeling.

Oh My, Oh My. A 4th poster. And as you can see it's not done AT all, but I already love it, I'm working so happily that I figured it already had to be here in my post. It's the same concept as the (to call it that way) the boogie clown. But this time i try to stick a little better with the concept. I also took my pastel pencils and caran d'ache pencils out of there boxes and I'm mixing them with my lovely acrylics. This could be my solution to the problem I'm having. In this way I can combine the roughness I have some times with acrylics together with the realism I have in my pencil drawings. I'm so looking forward to finishing it, but first I'll enjoy making it.

And YES, this blog is SOOOOO long :) The second part is about my business cards. which also aren't ready, but here are a few candidates.

So, It has been a while. Currently I started my intern ship. I work on a project of my own to narrow my style down to 1 or 2. The project has the theme of circus, it's a wide theme, which allows me to try out a lot of things. In the end I want a series of posters which will be in my folio. These are 2 sketchpages with potential ideas for the posters. I'll upload the first 2 try out posters next. Besides the circus project I sketch for a logo for myself, for some contests, and for a shadow assignment.  Busy times, but i love it <3

Ward 81

My grandparents cleaned up a bit of there old books, and i got some amazing photography books. One of them is Ward 81. Photography from Ellen Mark and text from Karen Folger Jacobs. Photographs of the people in a ward. The introduction strats with a story of 2 women who stand up, one is killed and stands now for a heroic women and is praised all over. The second women was left alive, she was severely damage in her head and put in a ward. The book starts with the question why she's been forgotten, why people don't make photographs in wards. Anyhow, it's pretty interesting and cause i felt like just drawing something, i started sketching the photographs. very quickly, about 4 to 8 minutes per sketch. and i filled some papers with them. I skipped a few pictures that i didn't find interesting enough to try. you can see it as an excersize of people i guess.  though it's not in real life this time. Things like these are very good for me to do, it makes my mind clear and i can think of my other projects and drawings i'm working on.

I've got a little moleskine, works great : ) and i love the developments in my little books. i wanna make a million or so

I was doodling around at my parents house.
